Hurray! Kebetkache is 20!!!
Today, we commemorate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Kebetkache Women Development & Resource Centre.

We have come a long way in the past two decades working extensively with women in rural communities of the Niger Delta region, mobilizing, organizing, training, sensitizing and facilitating engagement with various levels of stakeholders. November 6, 2023 marks 20 years since Kebetkache registered and commenced activities mobilizing and organizing community women in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria to raise their voices to demand gender equality, social inclusion and corporate accountability.
Kebetkache has influenced over 10,264 lives with its programs on women and extractives, democracy and governance, and women's human rights; increased the ability of women, host communities and stakeholders throughout the Niger Delta; gave agricultural seeds to more than 1,000 women in the Niger Delta, enabling them to recover from the devastating effects of flooding and climate change. We have trained and given women and young people the necessary tools and techniques to engage in politics; through our leadership program. Kebetkache has empowered 213 individuals to be change agents and catalyst for change. Between 2016 and 2020, Kebetkache trained over 800 representatives of community groups from Cross Rivers, Delta, Enugu, Rivers and Bayelsa states on fiscal transparency, this resulted in the formation of 10 budget advocacy groups. These groups are still monitoring the implementation of government budgets in their states.
Kebetkache has produced more than 65 community women leaders, enrolled 58 secondary school girls in IT training, and engaged more than 1,735 leaders at the local, state and national levels. Over the years! In Rivers State, Kebetkache has been part of campaigns for gender sensitive laws and has also promoted the involvement of women in the Ogoni clean up process. Kebetkache’s extensive work in the extractive sector and climate justice issues have given her recognition globally. Kebetkache has not only participated in national and regional conferences but has hosted a few regional exchange meetings and conferences. In 2022, we hosted the first African Women Climate Assembly, and have also hosted several African countries on learning exchange visits; e.g. Botswana, Senegal, Seirra Leone, South Africa, Uganda, Zimbabwe etc. Kebetkache was founded on the belief that every Woman deserves the opportunity to thrive and live a dignified life. Kebetkache has consciously and fervently generated opportunities and offered assistance to partners, project beneficiaries, and the communities in which she operates for the past 20 years. As we mark our 20th anniversary, we reflect on the many achievements and milestones we have accomplished as an organization. From humble beginnings, we have grown to become one of the leading women organizations in Nigeria, thanks to the hard work and dedication of our staff, partners, and stakeholders. We are grateful for the ongoing support of its board members, donors, and volunteers, without whom none of the accomplishments would have been possible. Kebetkache remains committed to our mission of empowering women and communities with excellence, innovation, and integrity. As we look to the future, we are excited to build on our past successes and pursue even greater heights in the years to come.
Thank you for being a part of this incredible journey!
Cheers to many more years of making a difference together!
