The theme for this year’s World Menstrual Hygiene Day (WMHD) is “To Create a World Where no Woman or Girl is Held Back Because they Menstruate by 2030”. This means a world where every girl or woman is empowered to manage her menstruation safely, hygienically, with confidence and without shame. The theme is a goal to be achieved by 2030. The target is to build a society where no woman or girl stays without the safety supplies and easy access to menstrual products.
52% of the females in the global population is of reproductive age so they menstruate every month. Yet majority of them are not in a situation where they can take care of their sanitary needs. In addition, cultural practices around menstruation perpetrate inequality and discrimination against women. In most climes, menstruation is rarely talked about.
As a step towards bridging this gap and achieving the 2030 goal, the Centre for Creative Development Strategies (CCDS) in partnership with Kebetkache, and other allied organizations is promoting menstrual health justice by producing ECOPAD for women and girls to create access to menstrual products and ensure it’s affordable and environmental friendly. We supported community women by launching 20 ECOPAD for them on the 28th of May, 2022 at the Women Affairs Conference Hall, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
